OK, seems to be true.

The place I originally looked at, which is http://www.advanced-monolithic.com/pdf/ds1117.pdf, did not specify that for SOT-223

Also http://daatemet.org.il/articles/article.cfm?article_id=119 shows the thermal tab as output.
