Backbone currently supports overriding Backbone.ajax with a jQuery ajax compliant API.

Unfortunately, the only one we can find najax seems to be not recently published although the repo is active:

najaxjs/najax#15

When it gets up to date, consider moving over to najax over our .sync override.
