Navy Design Guide

The goal of this guide are taken from the following design subfileds:

Branding Design

The goal of branding design is to form an overall perception of any product, service or organization in the consumer’s mind through a variety of means. Branding design helps communicate the aspirations, values and benefits of a product, service or organization. Successful branding creates positive associations and establishes consistent expectations for the consumer.

Experience Design

Experience design is the practice of designing products, processes, services, events, multi-channel journeys and environments with a focus placed on the quality of the user experience and culturally relevant solutions.

Identity Design

Identity design is the process of identifying a product, service or organization through a concise and consistently applied set of distinctive elements like color, typography and other visual cues to create a visual system that makes a product, service or organization easily identifiable.

Information Design

Information design deals with presenting complex information in the most efficient and easily understood way. Information design visually presents facts, figures, events and data that aid in the understanding of any given topic.

Interaction Design

Designmodo.com defines interaction design as “a process in which designers focus on creating engaging web interfaces with logical and thought out behaviors and actions. Successful interactive design uses technology and principles of good communication to create desired user experiences.”

User Experience Design

User experience (UX) design focuses on having a deep understanding of users, what they need, what they value, their abilities and also their limitations. It also takes into account the business goals and objectives of the group managing the project. UX best practices promote improving the quality of the user’s interaction with and perceptions of your product and any related services.

Visual Design

Visual design aims to shape and improve the user experience through considering the effects of illustrations, photography, typography, space, layouts and color on the usability of products and on their aesthetic appeal. To help designers achieve this, visual design considers a variety of principles, including unity, Gestalt properties, space, hierarchy, balance, contrast, scale, dominance and similarity.
