To reproduce:

  1. Open a ComboBox and select a value
  2. Focus the text field and press arrow left

Expected:

  1. The cursor moves left one character
  2. If you blur the combo box and click the dropdown button, the options of the combo box are shown
  3. You can clear the field to show all options using cmd-a (ctrl-a) and by pressing delete

Actual:

  1. The cursor moves left and then back
  2. The dropdown only contains the selected item and nothing else
  3. Pressing cmd-a selects all text and immediately deselects it (on keyup)

Version: 8.0.0

Is there any progress on this issue?
We faced this issue also in version 8.0.5

Added a test project which reproduces the issue. Just press the "Reset" button, select an item from the ComboBox and then try:

  1. press left arrow
  2. press Ctrl+A to select the whole value. Expected behavior: the value is selected and the user can e.g. copy it to the clipboard. Actual behavor: nothing is selected. This is quite annoying when you wish to clear the currently selected value by pressing Ctrl+A and the Backspace or Delete key.
  3. Press Shift+Left Arrow: Expected behavior: last character is selected. Actual behavor: nothing is selected.

The issue is present in 8.1.6 too. Other details:

  • Press home: the cursor in front and quickly back. It should stay in front.
  • Press shitft+home: the cursor in front and everything is briefly selected. Then the cursor jumps back and everything is deselected again. Pop-up shows up with one option in it.

It looks like this issue hasn't progressed lately. There are so many issues that we just can't deal them all within a reasonable timeframe.

  • Explain why it is important to get this issue fixed and politely draw others attention to it e.g. via the forum or social media.
  • Add a reduced test case about the issue, so it is easier for somebody to start working on a solution.
  • Try fixing the issue yourself and create a pull request that contains the test case and/or a fix for it. Handling the pull requests is the top priority for the core team.
  • If the issue is clearly a bug, use the Warranty in your Vaadin subscription to raise its priority.

Thanks again for your contributions! Even though we haven't been able to get this issue fixed, we hope you to report your findings and enhancement ideas in the future too!

I could not replicate this anymore, probably fixed by #11031
