It is still something we'd like to do, but isn't on our roadmap at the moment. We would be happy to help guide an external contribution for this though!

We are planning to write up some specific documentation for contributing new integrations soon (as well as reference implementations). In absence of that, my recommendation would be to:

• Copy a similar source, in this case the prometheus_scrape source might be the closest as a starting point since it also scrapes an external endpoint on an interval.
• See some of the development documentation which has general recommendations: https://github.com/vectordotdev/vector/blob/master/docs/CONTRIBUTING.md and https://github.com/vectordotdev/vector/blob/master/docs/DEVELOPING.md

Happy to answer any questions! I'm not terribly familiar with SNMP, but looking at Telegraf's configuration for it (https://www.influxdata.com/integration/snmp/) there seem to be a lot of options. I'd suggest starting with a minimal implementation that satisfies your use case and then we can extend it later (e.g. by adding support for encryption).

Lack of SNMP is the main reason for me Vector can't be considered as a replacement for Telegraf at the moment.
