Isn't this functionality provided by the OS on whatever platform you are using, by using the system screen capture tools? On the Mac I use Command-Shift-4 to do exactly this whenever I need to copy a quick bitmap of a plot.

I agree with @arichar6. On Windows, you can you use 'snipping tool'.
