Noob Question - How to make proxy take into account full path requested (when I request /auth/status from app it proxies /auth only)?

So I have an express backend and I've tested it and it works, and I want the vite dev server to proxy all requests starting with /api or /auth to that backend. Here's my current vite config:

        target: "http://localhost:8000/auth/",

And when I run vite --debug, I see that when I request /auth/status from the app, it's proxying the request to just http://localhost:8000/auth/, which doesn't return anything. Is there a way so that requesting /auth/status returns http://localhost:8000/auth/status instead of the incomplete path?

Nevermind, I figured it out - here's my revised config:

      "^/(api)|(auth)": {
        target: "http://localhost:8000",
        changeOrigin: true,
        secure: false
      },
    }
  }

});
