What is Orion?

Orion is a new operating system, based upon the L4Ka::Pistachio microkernel, that aims to be portable, compatible, reliable, and multifunctional, for general-purpose computing.

It combines architectural lessons from previous projects, over a decade of third-party development on divergent streams of the L4Ka::Pistachio kernel, new code, and ideas, and support for a range of hardware, use-cases, file systems/formats, and existing software APIs/ABIs.

To ensure rapid progress, although predecessor projects had greater ambitions, and Orion continues their tradition of being made for any conceivable application, initial releases will focus on achieving reliable boot, and build infrastructural support, before expanding scope.

Most code in this repository is published under the BSD License, and the optional kernel disassembler module is covered under the terms of the GNU GPLv2.
