In the Chairs list @astearns started a discussion (member-only link) of the pros and cons of currently available teleconferencing tools.

The considerations include:

  • accessibility
  • internationalization
  • privacy
  • reliability
  • dial-in capabiilty
  • screen sharing
  • queue management
  • network bandwidth
  • ability for participant to turn off incoming video (see bandwidth)

Other considerations (from discussion in WoT WG call):

  • platform independence (a native app that works on Linux, Mac, Windows...)
  • application sharing (share only one app, not only entire screen)
  • audio quality
  • video quality

I believe this issue can be closed since we picked Zoom as the platform for W3C.

Please raise separate issues related to Zoom, either here or in modern tooling.
