Background is that the related discussions about in #1024 unsettle developers.

The actual support of the extended properties regarding announcement as well as the very text issued in screen readers is mixed which is a definition gap in its own right.

Some people in the github thread believe that there is no benefit having these extended values at all which in tun influences screen reader developers not to support them, others are strong advocates on these. Therefore there are rumours about planned deprecation of the extended properties. Although actual ARIA draft still contains them, it is unclear if they will be kept is the general impression. In turn, app builder frameworks are hesitating to use these extended values at all, even in situations where it makes sense.

This situation is not satisfying and should be clarified as soon as possible.

this seems like a question that could be added to the existing issue(s) on aria-haspopup - since resolution of those would impact any discussion on this question

@stes-acc can you leave your comment on the original issue: #1024

This issue is still open and under active discussion, so if you want your concern on that proposal discussed please comment there and put F2FCandidate on that issue instead of opening a new issue.

Closing as this is now a duplicate.
