Les ressources suivantes contiennent des introductions à l'accessibilité :

The English sentence is:

The following resources provide information for getting started with accessibility:

The translation should be closer to "for getting started", rather than "introductions" — partly because the first resource is called an introduction and the others are not.

Dear French speakers: Suggestions? Thanks!

@vmmiler : Yes it's a good suggestion (with a space before the colon). Just a personal preference : "débuter" (more formal) rather than "démarrer" ?

English: Web Accessibility for Older Users: A Literature Review
French: L’accessibilité Web pour les utilisateurs plus âgés : un aperçu de la littérature
Not sure that "un aperçu de la littérature" reflects the translation from English.

@remibetin - what do you think? Does this aptly translate?
A suggestion I have is:
"L'Accessibilité Web pour les utilisateurs plus âgés: une revue de la littérature"

English: persons with disabilities
French translations: there are 5 versions of this same phrase, as follows:

  • one in the paragraph on video perspectives states "pour les personnes en situation de handicap "
  • one in the heading which follows and speaks of "personnes handicappées"
  • one in the paragraph which follows which states "les personnes porteuses de handicap "
  • under aged users, "pour les personnes handicapées"
  • second last paragraph, "les personnes handicapées"

There was a conversation about the definition and expression and I was wondering if it is better to align the three mentions.

I agree : in my reviews and contributions, I have consistently used "personnes en situation de handicap". We probably need to discuss it more to reach a consensus and include it in our glossary.

English: "Accessibility, Usability, and Inclusion"
French translation: Accessibilité, ergonomie, et inclusion (en anglais)
I was just wondering if "usabilité" could be used or is "ergonomie" the usual translation for usability, usability testing etc.

That is a tricky one, also a good candidate for glossary discussion.

  • Discussing with French usability professionals, I found out that "test d'utilisabilité" or "test utilisateur" were the most used for "usability testing". See my remark here : Contribution to your translation Soahmed2031/wai-InvolveUsersEval#1 (comment)
  • But in some other contexts, "ergonomie" may be the right word. For example, I would translate "usability professionals" into "ergonomes".

Title of the page: "Accessibility Fundamentals Overview"
Translation: "Vue d'ensemble des standards de l'accessibilité"

not sure if the translation reflects the page accurately. The page presents the "fundamentals" overview rather than specifically the "standards" as we talk also about the overall coverage of accessibility, i.e. the principles, the people etc and not only standards.

I concur. For other overview pages (Planning & Policies, Teach & Advocate, Design & Develop), I opted for the following construction : "[Topic] - Vue d'ensemble". If you also think it is a good approach, I suggest using it here for consistency.

"people with disabilities" is in WCAG. Any words or phrases in WCAG 2, we should use the authorized translation wording.

I added this to the glossary. :-)

English : Web Accessibility Perspectives Videos: Explore the Impact and Benefits for Everyone
French translation: L’accessibilité Web illustrée : explorer l’impact et les bénéfices pour tous (en anglais)

The English specifically refers to the videos perspectives whereas the French version refers generally to web accessibility illustrated.

To be more accurate, I would propose changing the French from "L'accessibilité Web illustrée" to "Vidéos sur les perspectives de l'accessibilité du Web".

@vmmiller I think it's difficult to translate "Web accessibility perspectives videos" literally.

When I read "les perspectives de l'accessibilité du Web", I understand "the prospects of web accessibility in the future". But the videos are about "being in the shoes of people with disabilities" to understand how essential accessibility is for them, and also how accessibility benefits everyone.

In that sense, "L'accessibilité Web illustrée" is not a bad pick to summarise the content of this section.

Other suggestions :

  • "Points de vue sur l'accessibilité Web (vidéos)"
  • "Points de vue sur l'accessibilité Web en vidéo"
  • "Vidéos - Points de vue sur l'accessibilité Web"

English: ... Describes tools and approaches that people with different kinds of disabilities use to browse the web and the barriers they encounter due to poor design.

French:... Décrit les outils et les solutions pour lesquelles les personnes qui présentent différents types de handicaps optent pour naviguer sur le Web et les obstacles auxquels elles se heurtent lorsque le design n’est pas optimal.

Comment: I it better in French to use "approches" in the French version since we do not speak of "solutions" in the English. Second, is it possible to simplfy the second part of the sentence to "les obstacles recontrés" instead of "les obstacles auxquels elles se heurtent"

@remibetin - I was rethinking this one: in fact, "test d'utilisabilité" wouldn't be really exact as we don't speak about usability testing. What about "accessibilité, utilisabilité et inclusion (en anglais)", i.e. without the word "test". Would that work?

@vmmiller Yes of course, I cited "test d'utilisabilité" because I came across "usability" in this context.

I agree "revue de la littérature" is better.
