Samsung M5/M7 - DDC volume are not working

I am using a Macbook Pro M1 16 inches with a Samsung M5 monitor. However, the feature of changing the volume on my monitor with BetterDisplay is not working. Does anyone have the same issue as me?

I'll move this to discussions as this is a monitor related issue. I don't have a Samsung M5 but it might be that this display is more like a TV (without a tuner) and it does not support DDC (?).

So apparently, EQMac works well for me.
Now my setup is eqmac to control volume and monitor control to control the brightness (both of these are free btw).
For extra context, I'm connecting my MacBook to my monitor through a USB-C to USC-C dongle.

I have a Samsumg M7 and both BetterDisplay and DisplayBuddy controls the brightness, but not the volume. I then tried SoundSource, that controls the colume and have now tried EQmac, also controls the volume from my magic keyboard on my MacStudio. Pitty that BetterDisplay and DisplayBuddy can't control the volume like SoundSource and EQmac

I think samsung Mx smart displays don't support DDC as they are more TVs inside (the unit although looks like a monitor, was derived from a TV hardware and TVs generally don't have DDC support). Brightness control is probably software only as well (meaning without disabling DDC in the app only the bottom 50% of the slider will have effect by default and instead of the backlight level being changedthe image itself is simply darkened).

But I might be wrong, somebody else mentioned out there that via HDMI DDC does work for him... so I am not sure. :)

This is the answer I got back from DisplayBuddy support Ah found this, https://rogueamoeba.com/support/knowledgebase/?showArticle=SS-SVK Yep, Soundsource is actually just changing your Mac's volume being routed to your monitor. We can definitely add this feature to DisplayBuddy, will take this up!

Right, apps like eqMac etc. do create a software audio device that alters the audio (changes the volume in this case) and then passes this on to the system output. It's like changing the volume in iTunes, but system-wide. Windows has this built-in for digital devices, however macOS by default outputs the unaltered signal to digital audio devices, leaving it to the audio receiver/amplifier to change the volume with its own controls.
