Better Days Project

Minecraft License: LGPL v3

A Minecraft 1.19+ mod to designed to extend the length of the crazy short minecraft day.

Notice

This mod was originally designed as a 1.15.2 mod. However, due to being too busy to update to 1.16.5, Hourglass mod was created. Now Hourglass hasn't received any updates in nearly a year, plus there are new features that needed added. I've revived Better days to update for not only 1.19 and 1.20, but also bring all the features to both Forge and Fabric.

1.19+ is a fork of Hourglass mod, with new features and some functionality removed.

Differences from Hourglass Mod

  • Commands removed.
  • Forge only configuration screen removed.
  • Syncing config updates with client. Now requires a restart.
  • Added better support for Serene Seasons

Features

This mod (optionally) replaces the vanilla sleep functionality with a smooth and natural transition to morning by accelerating the passage of time while you're in bed. In multiplayer, time will pass faster depending on the percentage of players who are currently sleeping. This removes the need for any sleep voting system or player threshold, as any number of players can have an impact on the duration of the night.

Better Days allows for customization of the day-night cycle duration, and can control day and night speed independently. Rather than the vanilla duration of 20 minutes, you can slow down time to make a day in Minecraft last as long as a day in real life, or speed up the passage of nights for a more forgiving experience.

Better Days also provides a number of time effects that may speed up the progression of various elements in Minecraft to match the current speed of time. Some examples include crop growth, grass growth, weather, potion effects, furnaces, hoppers, etc. Most of these time effects are disabled by default but can be enabled by setting their associated config options.

Compatibility

Better Days is compatible with the following mods:

Sleep Vote Mods

Better Days is compatible with mods that enable sleep voting or have sleep percentage systems like Quark and Morpheus, but they conflict with the sleep feature of this mod. These features should either be disabled in their corresponding mods, or the sleep feature in Better Days should be disabled. The sleep feature can be disabled via command or file by modifying the enableSleepFeature option.

Other Compatibility Notes

The Overworld is currently the only dimension supported. However, most dimensions in Minecraft (including custom dimensions) derive their time information from the Overworld and will therefore elapse time at the same rate.

This mod does not save data to world files and can safely be safely removed from a Minecraft installation.

Configuration

All configuration changes require reloading the game.

All of the configuration options are located in the mod's config folder for both single-player worlds and multiplayer servers.

When customizing Better Days, the speed of time is controlled using a multiplier. A value of 1 is equivalent to vanilla speed (20 minutes for a full day-night cycle). Setting daySpeed and nightSpeed to 0.5 will cut the speed of time in half, doubling the duration of a full day to 40 minutes. Likewise, doubling the configured speed to 2.0 will result in a shortened day lasting only 10 minutes from one morning to the next.

Warning: Setting daySpeed and nightSpeed to values higher than 3600 may be unsafe for people with photosensitive epilepsy.

[time]
	#The speed at which time passes during the night.
	#Night is defined as any time between 12500 (middle of dusk) and 23500 (middle of dawn).
	#Vanilla speed: 1.0
	#Range: 0.0 ~ 24000.0
	nightSpeed = 1.0
	#The speed at which time passes during the day.
	#Day is defined as any time between 23500 (middle of dawn) and 12500 (middle of dusk) the next day.
	#Vanilla speed: 1.0
	#Range: 0.0 ~ 24000.0
	daySpeed = 1.0
	#A reimplementation of 'Serene Seasons Fix' that overrides the fact that Serene Seasons doesn't honor the minecraft clock.
	#If using this, Serene Seasons config value day_duration is set to 24000
	#Set to true to override.
	sereneSeasonsFix = true

	[time.effects]
		#When applied, this effect progresses block entities like furnaces, hoppers, and spawners to match the rate of the current time-speed.
		#WARNING: This time-effect has a significant impact on performance.
		#This effect does not apply if time speed is 1.0 or less.
		#When set to SLEEPING, this effect only applies when at least one player is sleeping in a dimension.
		#Allowed Values: NEVER, ALWAYS, SLEEPING
		blockEntityEffect = "NEVER"
		#When applied, this effect progresses potion effects to match the rate of the current time-speed.
		#This effect does not apply if time speed is 1.0 or less.
		#THIS MAY HAVE A NEGATIVE IMPACT ON PERFORMANCE IN SERVERS WITH MANY PLAYERS.
		#When set to ALWAYS, this effect applies to all players in the dimension, day or night.
		#When set to SLEEPING, this effect only applies to players who are sleeping.
		#Allowed Values: NEVER, ALWAYS, SLEEPING
		potionEffect = "NEVER"
		#The base random tick speed used by the randomTickEffect time effect.
		#Range: > 0
		baseRandomTickSpeed = 3
		#When applied, this effect progresses player hunger effects to match the rate of the current time-speed.
		#This results in faster healing when food level is full, and faster harm when food level is too low.
		#This effect does not apply if time speed is 1.0 or less.
		#When set to ALWAYS, this effect applies to all players in the dimension, day or night. Not recommended on higher difficulty settings
		#When set to SLEEPING, this effect only applies to players who are sleeping.
		#Allowed Values: NEVER, ALWAYS, SLEEPING
		hungerEffect = "NEVER"
		#When applied, this effect syncs the passage of weather with the current speed of time.
		#I.e., as time moves faster, rain stops faster. Clear weather is not affected.
		#When set to SLEEPING, this effect only applies when at least one player is sleeping in a dimension.
		#Note: This setting is not applicable if game rule doWeatherCycle is false.
		#Allowed Values: NEVER, ALWAYS, SLEEPING
		weatherEffect = "SLEEPING"
		#When applied, this effect syncs the random tick speed with the current speed of time, forcing
		#crop, tree, and grass growth to occur at baseRandomTickSpeed multiplied by the current time-speed.
		#When set to SLEEPING, randomTickSpeed is set to baseRandomTickSpeed unless at least one player is sleeping in a dimension.
		#More information on the effects of random tick speed can be found here: https://minecraft.fandom.com/wiki/Tick#Random_tick
		#WARNING: This setting overwrites the randomTickSpeed game rule. To modify the base random tick speed,
		#use the baseRandomTickSpeed setting instead of changing the game rule directly.
		#Allowed Values: NEVER, ALWAYS, SLEEPING
		randomTickEffect = "NEVER"

[sleep]
	#This parameter defines the curvature of the interpolation function that translates the sleeping player percentage into time-speed.
	#The function used is a Normalized Tunable Sigmoid Function.
	#A value of 0.5 represents a linear relationship.
	#Smaller values bend the curve toward the X axis, while greater values bend it toward the Y axis.
	#This graph may be used as a reference for tuning the curve: https://www.desmos.com/calculator/w8gntxzfow

	### THIS SETTING DEFINES THE SLEEP TIME-SPEED IN SINGLE-PLAYER GAMES ###
	#The maximum speed at which time passes when all players are sleeping.
	#A value of 110 is nearly equal to the time it takes to sleep in vanilla.
	#Range: 0.0 ~ 24000.0
	sleepSpeedMax = 110.0
	#When true, players are allowed to sleep at all times of day in dimensions controlled by Better Days.
	#Note: Other mods may override this ability.
