What is the issue with the HTML Standard?

Today we held our biweekly triage call (#10094) and I will post the meeting notes there in a bit. The next one is scheduled for February 22, 9am PST. Note that this is 2 weeks later in an America+Europe friendly time.

People interested in attending the next call please respond here or reach out privately to me or the spec editors. We will be tagging issues for the next call again using the agenda+ label in all WHATWG repos and we would like to invite anyone that can contribute to said issues to join us.

As discussed, some folks from the i18n WG will join us this meeting and mainly drive the agenda.

It looks like @aphillips prepared https://github.com/w3c/i18n-activity/issues?q=is%3Aopen+is%3Aissue+label%3AAgenda%2BI18N%2BWHATWG. Not sure we'll be able to get through all of them, but let's do our best.

Thank you all for attending today! Here are the notes from this meeting (the next one is at #10156):

Agenda

  1. Review past action items
    1. Dan will follow up internally to find someone to present A way to disable animation of cancelled drag for editor apps like VS Code at a future meeting.
      1. Trying to get an explainer in place, will add it back when ready.
    2. Marcos will follow up with heycam on WebKit's opinion on Add a layer and filter interface in the 2D canvas.
      1. Deferring again. Anne will ping heycam.
    3. Joey to get data on how many pages would break if we removed the parser special case for the Stylable <select> element.
      1. Use counters added ([1], [2], [3]).
      2. Is this ready for the stage-entering discussion next time? Very likely to be ready this week. The Steering Group will label this issue with stage: 1 after they publish the stages process.
  2. Carryovers from last time
    1. Joint session with the I18N WG (tagged issues). Top priorities:
      1. Add &nnbsp; entity for U+202F

      2. Validating internationalized mail addresses in <input type="email"> (PR)
        1. Henri suggested that this should be opt-in. Luke suggested backend validation. Anne agreed, but gave up pursuing this due to the broad set of required use cases that were presented in the issue. Addison will update the PR with the provided feedback.
      3. Discuss i18n-glossary and Infra harmonization
        1. We should try to avoid duplication. The discussion will continue offline.
      4. If there is more time:
        1. Time-related issues (#9542, #5488)
          1. We didn't have time for this.
        2. Bidi-related issues
          1. We didn't have time for this.
  3. New topics
    1. [Mason] popover=hint
      1. The OpenUI folks presented arguments for using a behavior name rather than a UI element name. The discussion will continue on the issue.
    2. [Dominic] Atomic move operation for element reparenting & reordering
      1. Carryover.
    3. [Emilio] Render-blocking: the definition of "created by its node document's parser" is a little bit vague
      1. Carryover.
    4. [Sanket] New attribute to control UA-provided writing assistance
      1. Carryover.
    5. [Panos] Changing the meeting cadence to weekly.
      1. No objections, since we keep running out of time. Olli agreed, Anne noted that missing some meetings may be more frequent.
