Purpose

Revisit the attempted resolution for #2029

TODOs

If we assume that all the issues referenced in the master issue were resolved in the original implementation, it's fair to presume that only those issues that specifically reference v3.7.1 & v3.7.2 are the only applicable ones for more targeted investigations.
