This was done in two parts

we included the _h5ai indexing script in contentshell
we created a file_share module

Also! Important! We added:

upload_max_filesize = 512M
post_max_size = 512M

to /etc/php5/apache2/php.ini

This allows uploading reasonably large sized documents (videos, and pdf textbooks, for example)
