Cannot enable "Audio recording" preference? #808
Comments
Looks like there was an old Screenflick loopback interface installed that was being reported in error with ffmpeg. Removed it. |
I have the same issue: I cannot toggle the audio recording option to ON. (It used to work.)
What does this mean? Edit: screenshot of settings and preferences: https://www.dropbox.com/s/c8pfu0i6favrw8h/--r64zem.png?raw=1 |
Try the master branch. That seemed to resolve it.

Thank you. I, uh, have no idea what that means either. Sorry. Plainspeak? |
Try the latest release (3.2.0) |
Thank you. I've replaced mine with that most recent version. No apparent difference: I still cannot toggle the audio option to the right to turn it on. What next? |
Take a look at this directory Any drivers listed there, move them to another directory and then restart your system. See if that helps. |
Hmm. I don't have that folder: That is, Edit: I rebooted my mac anyways just in case; still nothing. |
I installed it on my personal macbook and it works fine. But I still don't know how to fix it on my work macbook. I uninstalled and reinstalled, and that too did nothing. |
Hey @pistachoo , Is the problem you're having the same as the original post? Can you not trigger the audio toggle at all? If so, can you please share your macOS version, and try going to Settings, Privacy, Microphone, find Kap, uncheck and check it again? It will probably ask you to quit and then you can try again. |
@karaggeorge Yes, I cannot trigger the audio toggle at all. I am using a MacBook Air (13-inch, 2017), with macOS Mojave Version 10.14.6. I went into Settings > Privacy > Microphone, unchecked Kap, restarted it, rechecked Kap, restarted it again, and I still cannot toggle the audio switch in Kap preferences. |
I can confirm this behavior, too: |
This is really hampering me on my work laptop: I am a school teacher currently trying to provide "continued learning opportunities" to my students during COVID-19 shelter in place, via M$ Teams, and I cannot make screen recordings with narration because of this glitch! I wish a solution or help could be had! |
Reopening this issue @pistachoo, and thank you for sharing how you are using Kap! I suggest completely uninstalling the app from your system, including |
My apologies, there's a newer issue where we can continue the conversation @hwinnemo and @pistachoo: #825 |
@pistachoo can you try the test build in #825 and see if that works for you as well? |
macOS version: 10.14.3
Kap version: 3.1.0
Step to reproduce: Attempt to enable the "Audio recording" preference button - the button does not move
Current behavior: The preference button does not move/enable
Expected behavior: That the preference button would move/enable, that I would be able to select my input audio device, and microphone audio would be recorded and incorporate into my video.
Workaround: I haven't found a workaround at this time.
