wow that's majorly corrupt. I wonder what it looks like if you try it on the vulkan renderer (launch xenia from the command line with the flag --gpu=vulkan)

Okay menu is now pretty much visible but the text is still a bit glitched (http://prnt.sc/bog00d) . After i go through the menu and cutscene is about to start the emulator gives a black screen and plays the audio from the cutscene glitching while having a black screen. after a bit the program crashes. So the flag fixes almost everything but at the moment it wants to play the cutscene it crashes.

@AlphaStep

So after the last update the screen text seems to be fixed completely but the only problem i'm having now is that the i get a black screen at cutscenes and that causes me that i can't play the game. What happens is that you get a black screen with some glitched audio for some seconds and then it just stops.

I also tried to do a tutorial flight to see if the game loads up the world, everything seems to work expect you have a black screen. but everything works further, so you can use controls (i noticed that due the audio).

Hi -

Just wanted to add that as of the latest release commit xenia-project/xenia@52c75c8
(i7, 16GB Ram, 8GB GPU) the game still black screens after any cutscene following the intro/main menu; however there is a noticeable audio lag between an action and the resulting sound in both the menu, and the actual gameplay(from what I can tell from just having audio). Much of the audio is also still corrupted.

4XPG commented Jul 12, 2017

Since the last December's release commit keyboard bindings for D-Pad and left analog stick doesn't work

The intro video plays fine, then the first cutscene that plays upon starting the campaign worked with extreme stuttering and 1-2 FPS, the briefing map crashes the game unless if you keep pressing F5 before the map shows up.

The hangar screen only displays UI and its text.
ac6

And finally the game crashes when entering gameplay.

Using xenia-git-20170821 I can reach in-game but everything's still in black (no display, no HUD, sound only but control works) just like what AlphaStep reported a year ago.

All particle effects (clouds, contrails, smoke, explosions, etc.) are very pixelated. Definitely not just aliasing.
Screenshot_29

This issue doesn't seem to affect HUD elements or textures, just particle effects. You can see here that the edges of buildings are as expected, but the borders of the rising smoke cloud is pixelated.
Screenshot_20

Audio seems fine during missions (possibly issues with music, though very subtle if present) but will glitch out in cutscenes if too many sounds. When glitched, cutscenes will repeat a sound snippet (100ms or so) over and over until ends or skipped, seems to be triggered when multiple sounds are played overlapping. Audio returns to normal after the end of cutscenes.

Black triangle issue is still present. Significant input lag does not seem present.

Same issues on Canary. Tried ROV at significant performance loss (halts of about half of a second) but it didn't improve this issue. Card is a 3070 Ti. As for Vulkan, maybe I configured it wrong, but in-game all it showed was a black screen with HUD displayed over it.

From what I've seen, the audio glitch in cutscenes seems to happen after some time during a cutscene. Seems to happen a bit randomly, sometimes it happens near the start, sometimes in the middle and sometimes near the end

Edit : Wanted to specify that the opening so far is the only cutscene exempt from the audio glitch. I haven't finished the game though, so it might not be the only one

Edit # 2 : Starting to get less cutscenes with glitched audio. Currently at mid-game, I'd say

Edit # 3 : During the cutscene after mission 12, the audio started lagging before glitching. I'll update this comment whenever I find a new issue related to audio

Edit # 4 : Edit # 2 is inaccurate. After doing a quick research, I found out that I wasn't actually at mid-game, but rather at end-game

As Triang3l pointed out 2 years ago, the ground glitches may be due to the accuracy of the fast approximate shader reciprocal instruction (and so, presumably it may even be hardware is a big variable too here?)
xenia-canary/xenia-canary@a34944e looks like having jerry-rigged an improvement though.

Using the Canary build from June 1st. At the time of writing, the audio is bugged. The music for the opening screen is broken, and cuts out after a single note. The audio for the opening cutscene is also broken. The music from the radio is bugged, and there's no voices.

Also, the master and canary builds have different camera angles, meaning the camera is closer to the plane in the master build than it is in the canary build (build versions are May 25th for Master and June 1st for Canary).

Audio doesn't work properly in cutscenes - it will start to work for a second or two, and then break. Testing on the current canary build, experimental@5ca173cd4, using D3D12. Have config set to any APU right now, will run some tests and add some more details. The cutscenes that occur in-engine start out okay, but once dialogue begins, dialogue audio will cut out, and then all audio will cut out; FMVs appear to be fine, and de/briefings and in-mission dialogue work fine (some in-mission dialogue gets cut off sometimes but I'm not sure if that's an emulator bug or the game cutting itself off).

Also, use_fuzzy_alpha_epsilon = true causes flicker in this game even on NVIDIA cards, while false has no flicker (tested on RTX 2070), and in-engine cutscenes do not respect vsync settings (tearing still occurs even when frame count is properly set).

APU testing:
apu = "nop" causes the game to not launch at all (Xenia remains responsive and updates its top bar to the game name but the game never actually launches, just remains a black screen)
apu = "sdl" causes the behavior described above.
apu = "xaudio2" produces the same behavior as sdl.
Setting use_dedicated_xma_thread = false and use_new_decoder = true produced no noticeable differences, although I did observe that no in-mission dialogue was cut off.

What is this and what could be causing it? It shows up on every mission I think.

@ahegaosensei

Pretty sure that's just part of how Xenia doesn't properly handle some visual effects yet. Missile trails have similar blocking issues. I found that I started tuning it out very quickly and stopped noticing it.

Aaaand after the first mission and the opening FMV, the game infinitely loads, rendering it unplayable in any meaningful way. There a good workaround for this other than already having a save from further ahead?

I don't know why you facing issue like that,

AC6 work fine for me from start to ending using Xenia Canary (I don't remember the version i downloaded), but i downloaded Xenia Canary 1 month ago.

The Only Issue is pixelated / little bad graphics and Cutscene is no audio. Others like music, sound effect, in-game dialogoue are working fine

Ryzen 5 3600, GTX 1050 Ti, 16GB DDR4-2666MHz, Windows 11 22H2

Maybe your ISO is corrupted. Or you having a mistake setting the Xenia

Hey guys i want to ask,

I can run AC6 from begin to end using xenia canary without any ground triangles, and music in all mission is fine without any glitched music, and In-Game Dialogue is also Fine without any skipped Dialogue. My PC Spec is Ryzen 5 3600, GTX 1050 Ti, 16GB DDR4 2666 MHz, and Windows 11 22H2. All my PC spec are not overclocked. I limit the FPS to 60 using NVIDIA Control panel and set VSync Settings to Off in Xenia Canary Config Toml. I have 3 questions now

  1. If i limit the FPS to 30, will it fixed the skipped dialog issue in briefing and gameplay?
  2. Should i update my xenia canary to the newest version every one week? Because there is no direct update (like check for version update just like antivirus or windows)
  3. If i decided to update xenia canary to the latest version and limit the FPS to 60, will it fixed all issue? (Like pixelated graphics, and cutscene no audio)

@1Phase1

1Phase1 commented Jul 29, 2024

@ridhosaputra28 I'm sure if it was that easy to fix the cutscene audio issues, the Ace Combat emulation guides would mention that you need to limit the FPS to fix the remaining issues left for this title, or someone here would've discovered that fix and would've mentioned it.

I'd suggest trying out those solutions. If they work, then you can say so here and hopefully one of the contributors will see and either add some kind of note saying that the FPS needs to be limited for AC6, or change something in Xenia so that it automatically limits the FPS for this game.

So, just try those solutions anyway. That's the best way to know if they work.

I don't know this tricks work or not on another PC / Laptop. But here's my trick to run AC6 on PC

Tested on : Ryzen 5 3600, GTX 1050 Ti, 16GB DDR4-2666MHz, Windows 11 22H2, AC6 playing on HDD

Make sure your PC meets the Xenia Canary System Requirements. And your PC drivers and Wndows is up to date. And make sure your PC is clear from caches, junk, etc.

Also make sure your PC have Redistributable Installed (DirectX, Visual C++, .NET Framework, etc)

Preparation

  1. Download the latest version of Xenia Canary
  2. Download the AC6 ISO File (I download from romsfun)

After that 2 things downloaded, go to the Xenia settings step

  1. Run Xenia Canary for the first time to create xenia-canary.config.toml file (I Run as administrator)
  2. Open xenia-canary.config.toml file with your text editor (i recommend Visual Studio Code)
  3. Find these settings in that toml file :
  • apu_max_queued_frames, change to = 24
  • use_dedicated_xma_thread, change to = false
  • use_new_decoder, change to = true
  • cpu, change to= "x64"
  • draw_resolution_scale_x, change to = 1
  • draw_resolution_scale_y, change to = 1
  • gpu, change to = "d3d12"
  • gpu_allow_invalid_fetch_constants, change to = true
  • ac6_ground_fix, change to = true
  • mount_cache, change to = true
  • framerate_limit, change to = 0
  • vsync, change to = false
  • postprocess_scaling_and_sharpening, change to = "fsr"

If you want to play with keyboard, use these settings :

[HID]
guide_button = true # Forward guide button presses to guest.
hid = "winkey" # Input system. Use: [any, nop, sdl, winkey, xinput]
left_stick_deadzone_percentage = 0 # Defines deadzone level for left stick. Allowed range [0.0-1.0].

-- I make the keyboard settings for AC6 similar to HAWX --

  1. After done settings the xenia-canary.config.toml file, save that file
  2. After saved, close your editor, then open NVIDIA Control Panel
  3. Go to the Manage 3D Settings > and then go to the program settings (Make sure your Global Settings value are all default)
  4. in 1. select a program to customize, if xenia_canary.exe doesn't exist, browse that xenia_canary.exe location
  5. Make sure the "Show only programs found on this computer" are checked
  6. After step 5-8 done, setting the Xenia Canary in NVIDIA Control Panel like this
  • Anisotropic Filtering = 16x
  • Antialiasing - FXAA = On
  • Antialiasing - Transparency = 8x (supersample)
  • Max Frame Rate = 60 FPS (if you're afraid of drop FPS or your rig is not too good, maybe you can change it to 70 FPS. But i don't know, 70 FPS will be have issue like briefing dialogue skip or in-game dialogue skip)
  • Multi-Frame Sampled AA (MFAA) = On
  • Texture Filtering - Anisotropic sample optimization = Off
  • Texture Filtering - Negative LOD bias = Clamp
  • Texture Filtering - Quality = High Quality
  • Texture Filtering - Trilinear Optimization = Off
  1. Make sure you apply the NVIDIA Control Panel settings after setting xenia in NVIDIA Control Panel
  2. After config file and NVIDIA Control Panel settings are finish, you can run the Xenia Canary by using "Run as administrator", then search a Ace Combat 6 ISO File

Using this trick :
Pros
No briefing dialogue skip
No in-game dialogue skip
In-game music are 100% fine
Game sound effect (like explosion, firing missile, guns, button sound effect like menu selection, wingman command, allied support, etc) are fine

Cons
Cutscene still heavily bug and no sound
Graphics like missile smoke, clouds, and sky are pixelated

UPDATE : I tested it earlier to cap using NVIDIA Control Panel to 65 FPS. Briefing Dialogue is skip, but the in-game dialogue is still fine without skipped. So my final setting is 61 FPS for Near-Perfect experiance in gameplay.
