This allows to not rely on exporting extra variables to check the installation. On Ubuntu, dist-packages was necessary instead of site-packages for PYTHONPATH, which caused CI failures.

Fixes for failures seen in my fork of xrootd. Funnily enough, these were only failing in the fork, for the same hash as master.
