The Steampunk Calendar Orrery Yahoo Widget, written in Javascript and XML for the Yahoo Widget (Konfabulator) Engine. Created for XP, Vista, Win7, 8, 10+ as well as Apple Mac Sierra.
This Steampunk Calendar Orrery Yahoo Widget is an attractive steampunk Yahoo widget for your desktop. Think of it as a piece of Space 1899 high tech.

It is more than just starting to do something now. The widget now fully controls a calendar, the calendar wheel rotates, the day under the display indicates the date selected. If a memorandum exists for that day then it can be configured to automatically display. The calendar ring rotate by mouse control, the date, day, month and year display according to ring position. The inner earth and moon rotate, the moon around the earth. The earth rotating around the central glow, roughly follows the track of the window circular frame. The inner wheel with lots of bolts counter-rotates as the main calendar ring rotates. The widget is fully resizable. The right and left hand cogs now rotate.
It was based upon a superb blog navigation device on Ian Tregillis site created by Richard Mueller of 3232 design. His superb bit of Adobe Flash was really inspirational and it made me want to complete it (the original only shows 50% of the device and was limited to running only on web-pages within the browser). My version will add functionality and will run on your Mac or Windows desktop. See the original here:

It provides a daily memorandum function via a truly steampunk interface. Select a date via the calendar ring and click the date shown and it will allow you to enter a memo or reminder. The calendar ring rotates by mouse control, the date displays according to ring position. The inner earth and moon rotate, the moon around the earth. Clicking on the moon causes the moon to expand so that you can see the phases of the moon according to any date you choose. Clicking on the earth causes the earth to enlarge shoing you an image of the rotating earth. The widget is fully resizable for your desktop. The original Yahoo widget orrery for Windows/Macs has lots of functionality all of it written in javascript - The second version was adapted to run on xwidgets on windows. Next was the rainmeter version - the first of our steampunk widgets to be adapted to a rainmeter widget also running on Windows. The third is the Linux KDE plasmoid here adapted for Linux/KDE using QML. Each version is slightly different adding/modifying functionality. The latest version, this one provides a lot more and you simply have to give it a go.
These Widgets are moveable widgets that you can move anywhere around the desktop as you require.The widgets can be resized - Hover the cursor over the widget. Press the CTRL key and use your mousewheel up or down. The widget will resize dynamically.
All javascript widgets need an engine to function, in this case the widget uses the Yahoo Widget Konfabulator engine. The engine interprets the javascript and creates the widget according to the XML description and using the images you provide.

Running the widget using a javascript engine frees javascript from running only within the captivity of a browser, you will now be able to run these widgets on your Windows desktop as long as you have the correct widget engine installed.
- Install yahoo widget SDK runtime engine
- Download the gauge from this repo.
- Unzip it
- Double-click on the resulting .KON file and it will install and run
- Install yahoo widget SDK runtime engine for Mac
- Download the gauge from this repo.
- Unzip it
- For all all recent versions of Mac OS/X including Sierra, edit the following file:
com.yahoo.widgetengine.plist which is in /Users/xxx/Library/Preferences. Look for these lines:
<key>DockOpen</key>
<string>false</string>
Change to false if it is true.
- Double-click on the widgets .KON file and it will install and run
Wit these instructions you should be able to start Yahoo! Widgets and the menubar item should appear. Widgets can then be started from the menubar or by double-clicking on the KON file in the usual way.
