Lazy Foo's SDL2 Tutorials, in Rust

This repo contains ports of the Lazy Foo SDL2 tutorials to the Rust programming language, using the Rust wrappers kindly provided by the following awesome people:

The examples assume 0.27.2 at a minimum.

NB: As of rust-sdl2 0.27.2 these two libraries have been rolled

into rust-sdl2, and are no longer needed.

Requirements

To run any of these examples, you will need two things:

  1. The nightly build of Rust. Some of these examples use features that still aren't in stable (as of 1.14)

  2. The SDL2 Development libraries. You will also need the image library, SDL_Image 2.0; and the truetype library, SDL_TTF 2.0.

On OS X, you can use Homebrew:

brew install sdl2
brew install sdl2_image
brew install sdl2_ttf

On Fedora:

sudo dnf install SDL2-devel SDL2_ttf-devel SDL2_image-devel

On RedHat/Centos:

sudo yum install SDL2-devel SDL2_ttf-devel SDL2_image-devel

For other platforms, refer to your existing package documentation.

Compiling and Running the Examples

Once you have a version of rust installed, you can build all the examples with the command

cargo build

To run a specific lesson, run

cargo run --bin lesson<NN>

Where is the # of the lesson.
