Chapter Embedding Results in Unnamed Chapters When Using Recent FFmpeg Builds #6859
Comments
Closing as this is actually upstream in FFmpeg. The thought honestly hadn't crossed my mind, as I couldn't imagine this had gone undiscovered for a month. |
Don't know how I missed that. Sorry for the duplicate. |
No worries, the other issue's title isn't very search-friendly. I linked the issue so that if people find this issue they can see further discussion |
Thanks to @nihil-admirari, this has been fixed in the yt-dlp ffmpeg builds |

Checklist
Provide a description that is worded well enough to be understood
When using the latest version of FFmpeg, downloading a video containing chapters and embedding them results in the embedded chapters in the output file being unnamed. The issue started somewhere between commits 30cea1d39b and f7abe92bd7, as builds of 30cea1d39b and earlier do not have this problem.
To replicate, install the latest Git build of FFmpeg and then download a video with chapters while using the
--add-metadata
flag. The resulting video file will contain unnamed chapters. For the time being, this can be worked around by using a build of 30cea1d39b or earlier.
This should happen with any video containing chapters, but here are a few example URLs:
