Are you referring to "allowed_statuses" for issues?

I have the same question. Not "allowed_statuses" but the actual status. I want to close the issue, but it won't let me.
We had a different ( older? ) version of this API and it used to work but now my code like this:

no longer works.

The first line does nothing. The second line gives an error:
CS0272 The property or indexer 'property/indexer' cannot be used in this context because the set accessor is inaccessible.

I can see that in the readme, changing status is not supported, which is I guess the question:
