Describe the feature

In order to have more compact tabs, I'd love to have the close icon displayed on top of the tab's file icon when they're hovered.

Depends on file icons being implemented:

If applicable, add mockups / screenshots to help present your vision of the feature

Are you sure? I assumed #5486 would put the close button beside file icons, like this:
