Saving hangs on maintenance branch

In the maintenance branch, if I go to https://www.annualreviews.org/doi/abs/10.1146/annurev-anthro-121319-071409 and try to save, it gets as far as the getSelectedCollection response and then stops, and then the connector doesn't work at all on any page for almost 8 minutes:

Then I can use the connector again. While it's broken, even preferences are broken:

I get a similar problem on Google Scholar. In both cases it may be hanging right before it starts an import process for the BibTeX/RIS? #396 shows the next line would be "Creating translate instance of type import in sandbox".
