Possibility of using something like http://paypal.com or https://stripe.com (£ 1.4%+20p fosspay), https://snowdrift.coop (wacky multiplyer), https://liberapay.com (€ complicated percentage) or https://www.patreon.com/ ($ 10%) to raise regular small donations to fund any hosting of apt repository's or to build up a bank of cash to then pay for dev time. Or per bug: https://www.bountysource.com/ to pay for individual bugs fixed.

Note: Need a democratic way of directing cash in the most needed direction. Perhaps donors and code contributors would all get a vote.
