Posters from NIOSH:

Fume and Airborne Particle Hazards

Fire and Electrical Hazards

3D printers contain heaters and can be a fire risk, particularily on the cheaper end.

Some manufacturers (such as Creality and Anet) also turn off software safety features such as thermal runaway protection (which recognizes when a heater is behaving erratically and turns it off). This is considered a CRUCIAL safety feature and Oliof has put together an incredible resource explaining it here.

Hazard examples by brand

Creality

Known recurring issues with creality machines include:

  • Thermal runnaway protection disabled by default
  • Dodgy volt converter
  • Poor stress relief on cables causing wear and subsequent fires
  • Cheap, crimped fake XT60 connectors (these connectors are designed to be soldered so they release if heated. This is now more of a legacy issue (after overwhelming community outrage Creality fixed this one issue), but there is still old stock being sold).

Some examples of these issues:

Anet

The Anet A8 is notorious for having started several major housefires, several examples and discussion.
