Soft inpainting on areas too close to the face cause the quality of the face to deteriorate -- extremely annoying

I do like the new soft inpainting function, but it seems like there is an invisible inpaint radius out of the mask so if I inpaint stuff close enough to a character's face, the quality of the face deteriorates and becomes extremely blurry and I had to reroll the whole face by using Addetailer a second time. Extremely annoying. Is this a bug or is it something I can get around from?
