Current Behavior

I use AdAway non-rooted via VPN on a xiaomi redmi note 13 pro+. It works fine, except that it does not automatically start after a reboot (when opening, it's in "pause" mode). Any ideas why not?

I did:

  • Selected "Background autostart"
  • Set Battery saver to "No restrictions"
  • Set Always-on VPN in preferences

Ever since I set the Always-on VPN, I get a message after reboot (before providing the unlock code for the first time): "Disconnected from always-on VPN — Change network or VPN settings".

I can also reproduce this by explicit closing AdAway (showing running apps and swiping it away). This will also pause AdAway.

Thanks for helping, and thanks for Adaway!

Expected Behavior

I would expect AdAway to stay active, unless explicitly paused through the AdAway UI.

Steps To Reproduce

Two ways:

  1. Reboot
  2. Use Android to swipe the AdAway window away (free memory).

Device Configuration

  • AdAway version: 6.1.1
  • Ad-blocker mode: VPN
  • Device: xiaomi redmi note 13 pro+
  • Android version: 13 (MIUI 14)
  • Root version: N/A
