How does SlimHUD work?

When SlimHUD is launched, a series of observers are set up.

For instance, one of these observers checks whenever a volume up or down key has been pressed. When this happens, a progress bar is created and displayed. The appearance of this bar (known as "the HUD") is completely up to the user, who can customise it in the preferences.
