Closing as this doesn't apply in the new VideoPress implementation. |
Could I please ask that the WHITELIST option please be ENABLED again? really awesomefriggin' awesometotally a no brainerINCREDIBLEVALUE OUT THE WAZOO!!!YES YES YES ❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️Look, after 9 years of Word-ing with the Press, we all know people are flocking to video, right? So, we go to Vimeo Pro or Wistia. But wait, let's Press the Word ➡️ 💲 💰 BUSINESS 💲 💰 ⬅️ for a second. Why not increase the JetPack users by offering the FEATURE & BENEFIT of video white listing 💡 Seriously, I don't need anyone right clicking and getting the video URL, direct URL, or anything else for that matter. Think along the lines of LifterLMS or Sensei or Lynda.com if it helps. Just play the video ✅ ...only on my site ✅ ...and let's not care about bandwidth✅, upload size✅, or play counts ✅ Does anyone need those "Share" buttons all up in their video? ⛔️ Nope. Ok, so we're good to go with a toggle on that part, right ✔️ But what about simply allowing the video to only be played on the URL intended 👍 Crazy stats, all types of other goofy features like buttons and hooplah? ⛔️ Nope. Just whitelist it for my domain 👍 😮 talk about a feature/benefit that'll drive revenue 💰 from Vimeo and Wistia straight to JetPack! |
is this board still active? https://github.com/Automattic/jetpack/projects/1 |
cc @pgk who may be able to give us more information about the work he's been doing with VideoPress and private videos. |
In the previous VideoPress iteration, there was an option to limit embedding to certain whitelisted domains. That option no longer exists in the current iteration. This means that if a user decides to uncheck the "Display share menu and allow viewers to embed or download this video" option on their video once it's uploaded to the WordPress.com site with the VideoPress subscription, they cannot embed the videos on their linked Jetpack site.
Note, however, that if a user had previously whitelisted a domain before the change to the new version, it appears that the whitelist is still taken into account if the option is unchecked; this is based on one Livechat conversation with a user, and is not 100% certain.
