NCR guards randomly turning hostile, killing some peasant, then cooling down #185

What happened

my guys have weapons holstered yet that one NCR guard randomly turned hostile, killed some peasant, then cooled down :D

What you expected to happen

a peaceful place

Did you take the fight with Hoss outside or something?

apparently LVAR_Hostile is set to 2 for that guard.
It's only set when

  • you're caught stealing from the guard
  • the guard sees you tampering with a locker
  • you don't comply with the order to holster weapons in time

My guess is that you failed to comply, but by the time he realized it, you either left area or were not in sight, so he didn't attack.

It's hard to make a fix without a reliable way of turning him hostile like you did.

Yea I did, Hoss insisted (there were no other dialogue options), but then after getting knocked out and noone turning hostile I thought it was the normal way of events and proceeded

The peasant just got in the way for you I guess, try replaying. For me guards shoot for one turn at the party, then combat ends.

That's a weird "warning" from the guards anyway 😄

If you find a more or less reliable way to get from "guards behave normally" situation to the situation in your attached save, I could try to cook up a fix.

During the fight with Hoss perhaps my party shot him few times sending him into knockout

Whole holstering thing for party is super bothersome in NCR, I wish it just wasn't a thing and only you had to holster...

There's 2 separate bugs, actually. Hoss keeps terminating combat although he'd surrendered already. He only should terminate it once. So now the police will keep attacking your until you're dead.
As for how'd you get police hostile, that's for you to figure out.
