NOTE:
make testis failing due to changes in how PHP 8.X handles errors being thrown. I'm unfamiliar with the testing framework.TSRMLS_*can be safely removed. See https://github.com/php/php-src/blob/PHP-8.0/UPGRADING.INTERNALS#L50
