Portable PHP/MySQL Corporate Intranet System

Installation

1. Untar all the files into your PHP enabled web space.

2. Create, or have created, a MySQL database with an
account that has SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE and DELETE
privileges.

3. Put the name of the database, and the username and
password of the MySQL account from the last step,
into settings.inc
It's important to tell your web server (eg, Apache)
that it must refuse requests to *.inc files, as
settings.inc contains a password. As an example,
Apache users might want to include the following
in their site configuration:

<Files ~ "\.inc$">
Order allow,deny
Deny from all
Satisfy All
</Files>

4. Run the included ppcis_create.sql on the database
to create the tables (this needs create privileges,
and needs to be done only once). As an example,
you might use this command:

$ mysql -D intranet -u root -p < ppcis_create.sql

If you're upgrading from version 1, you can update
your database by running ppcis_upgrade.sql instead.
This is a bit of a one-way trip - changes to the
database have forced backwards compatibility out.

5. Edit the variables in settings.inc until you're happy
with the logo, stylesheet, options etc.

6. The default account is admin with the password
istrator. Log in and change the password immediately.

modules.inc
===========

Altering the PHP hash array in this file is the means of
editing the top level PPCIS module menu. You can comment
out the lines to remove them, or even add modules of your
own here. If you're not sure of PHP syntax, just copy
the ones in there already and edit them. Basically:

$module["Helpdesk"]="helpdesk.php";

This adds a menu entry called "Helpdesk" which, when
clicked, loads helpdesk.php. A double slash ( // ) will
comment out a line.

A module is any PHP script which includes head.inc at
the start, and tail.inc at the end. Any valid body
PHP or HTML can be included between them.

settings.inc
============

$siteprefix
This should be the path to your intranet PHP files.
The default is / (web root) but if I were to use it
on the site where I distribute PPCIS I would use
/~bronald/ instead.

$sitename
The name of your intranet. This appears at the top
of each screen and in the title bar of the browser.

$sitelogo
A graphic, which will be displayed at the top left
of each page.

$logourl
An optional URL which will be loaded if the logo is
clicked.

$stylesheets
An associative array of available stylesheets. The
key is the name as seen on the Preferences screen,
the value is the relative URL of the stylesheet. As
many can be defined as necessary. The design was
to enable companies to provide alternative styles
to the main one for accessibility reasons. The
first one is the default.

$lang_available
An associative array of languages. PPCIS now
supports full internationalisation. The key is the
name of the language as appears in the Preferences
screen. The value is a codename for the language.
Importantly, there must be a .inc file in the
languages directory with the same name as the
codename. Incomplete or missing languages files
can cause PPCIS to completely give up on a user.

$default_lang
One of the defined codewords on $lang_available,
which is used as the default language.

$news_notify
Whenever a new article is submitted, the system will
email whichever user has their name here. It will
hunt through the internal directory for the email
address, so it would be a good idea to make sure they
have one in the directory.

$support_notify
Whenever a new call is logged, the system will email
whichever user has their name here. It will hunt
through the internal directory for the email address,
so it would be a good idea to make sure they have
one in the directory.

$backwards_history
For some reason, my employers likes seeing the history
on the helpdesk calls with the newest at the top. This
made it easier to see new entries, but much harder to
read the entire history. Setting this option to TRUE
puts the newest first, FALSE puts the newest last.

$file_store
This is where the library module will store the bodies
of all the files that have been uploaded. It *must*
have full read and write privileges for the user that
PHP runs as on your system.

Any problems here are either due to file access not
being set correctly for PHP to save files, or due to
the php.ini directive Allow_uploads being set to No.

$db_hostname
The name of your database server. Leave it at localhost
if it's on the same machine as your web server.

$db_username
The MySQL username that has SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE and
DELETE provoleges to your intranet database.

$db_password
The password for the above account.

$db_name
The name of the database on the DB server where your
tables can be found.
