Role-based badges should be auto-awarded?

When becoming a champion or becoming a verified mentor, related badges should be awarded?
Elsewhat, in particular for a single champion, you need another champion to award it to yourself as a badge cannot be awarded to yourself.

Yes totally agree. This should definitely be the case for all Champions and
for Adult 'Mentoring' badges.

There will be criteria for the mentoring badge for youth though - like must
have mentored at 5 Dojos. Let me check what Pete has in terms of criteria
for soft skills.
