Padrino Crud Example Application

Steps

1. Create project with padrino generator

$ padrino g project crud -d sequel -t minitest -e erb --tiny

tiny flag replaces controller, mailer & helper directories with single ruby file

2. Setup failing test for homepage route Use MiniTest::Test, my favourite

3. Create test dir and lib for friend object

$ mkdir test/friend lib $ touch lib/friend.rb test/friend/friend_test.rb

Add failing test for friend object

4. Create Database table Light weight database with sqlite, to clear database delete files in db

5. Create method for a new friend Fix minitest uses setup method not before method

6. New page and test that response is ok. Not using views

7. Create show Page to view a friend Returns the fiends name as a string

8. Edit page sends form to edit friend Form action sends to update route

9. Update action changes a friends name Note reload from database for testing

10. Destroy action deletes a friend Now a fully working crud application

11. Use padrino before to DRY code padrino will call the before action before all specified routes several routes fetch a friend from the database so we can collect this action

12. Generate page content using view templates Use erb format, index in crud shows all entries as standard

13. Redirect within controller Use redirect when appropriate, also redirect from unfound friend entries
