Update the Rooms page/plan on wiki to reflect Dinky/Fibre Arts room changes #1887

The fibre arts room has many facilities that can be used concurrently, how would you sort that for booking exactly? Nothing stopping someone from using the cutting table while someone else uses Fred, someone else uses Ariadne, someone else uses a sewing machine, etc. How exactly do you plan to sort that? |

While I'm here actually, can I ask when and how this was decided? I'm one of the most regular users of the fibre arts room when it's accessible to me, and I've not been part of any discussions to that effect. |

In my experience there has never been a point where people using the fibre arts room to work on fibre arts projects weren't able to co-operate in using the space concurrently. The only equipment that sometimes has high demand is Fred, which already has a booking system. |

Glad to see you've only brought small pitchforks, there should be room to store them on the new shelves 😜 Being able to book (things in) the Fibre Arts room, as well as the CNC room, had been requested as something for the Optimism software system years ago. I can't find an exact reference, but we've been expecting to allow booking of the embroidery machine and CNC router as the first things to test that out before rolling it out to the more heavily used laser-cutters. I didn't know there was a booking system for Fred, @Spikyflower. How does that work? There doesn't seem to be anything about it on Fred's page on the wiki (not trying to pick on anyone, just continuing my trying to encourage all of us to write things down 😉) Given the slow progress on getting Optimism ready, and the fact that meeting space is in short supply, it came up in the checks September directors meeting. See point 3 in the minutes for that meeting My understanding/assumption/expectation is that it would be a way for people intending to use the Fibre Arts room to flag that, not so they can get exclusive access to it because, as you say, it's perfectly possible for a number of folk to use it for that at the same time. However, it would then mean that the people who end up using it as a stand-in meeting room would know that it isn't free, given that there are times at present when people who want to use the fibre arts kit can't get in because there's a meeting going on. |

That makes a lot more sense - I suspect some communicative wires got crossed there. Thanks for the clarification, Adrian! I am aware there's a booking system for Fred, but I don't know where it is either. Apologies for the harsh tone, I've been really busy and didn't take the time to check how it came across. The concerns still stand (though what Adrian's mentioned sounds very sensible) but I should've worded them less harshly. Sometimes I get too focused on facts and not enough on people receiving said facts. |
Unfortunately, so far those using the fibre arts room as a stand-in meetings space have not treated the space with respect. People haven't been taking their dirty plates, mugs, and tissues away. I come to the fibre arts room and have to tidy up people's mess, clear junk off of the sewing machine, and look for the pins, sharps, and ironing pads before starting any work. Raising the issues associated with this has not been met adequately by any stretch. There have been multiple dismissive responses regarding the compromised accessibility of the space and shut down of all suggestions that people could respond well to any form of reminders or establishing a protocol to remove the extra furniture brought in for meetings. The proposed solution for the fabric equipment being removed from their stencilled spaces on the table was to remove those stencilled spaces, and for these items to be shelved - this was presented as a consequence of the room becoming a meeting room by default and a fibre arts room when booked, and presented as a foregone decision as to the repurposing of this space. Requiring people who use the fibre arts room as a fibre arts room to flag that up in advance looks very much like a way of repurposing this space as a meeting room. |

@Spikyflower - I'm very sorry I was flippant about people remembering to move chairs when they've finished with them (not just at meetings!). I'm sure nobody wants to cause accessibility issues, so hopefully we just need to explain this again. I advocated for a Fibre Arts room and was instrumental in setting it up. I don't want to repurpose it as something else, and I don't know of anybody else who does. My idea of moving the items from the stencilled space (to another stencilled space nearby) was so people didn't need to keep moving things when they started work, whether on Fibre Arts projects (e.g. hooping up while using the embroidery machine) or anything else. I'm sure there'll be loads to talk about when everyone's back in the office. The note you left on the table might be a good starting point for discussion - it's on @DoESsean desk at the moment (out of the way of the work which was going on). |

If the stencils on the tabletop are in the way for Fred, we can just flip
the tabletop so they're at the other end ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The plan on the Wiki page shows Dinky where the Fibre Arts room is now, and "Soundproof Room" where Dinky is now, and doesn't have details for the Fibre Arts room.
Fibre Arts room needs to be added to the room booking system, but this will need changes to our YouCanBookMe subscription
