Running Calculations on USLCI in openLCA

Use 'As Defined in Process' as Default Allocation Method

Using 'NONE' or 'CAUSAL' as the default allocation method, as designated by data providers in many USLCI multi-output processes, can produce unexpected LCI & LCIA results in oLCA. The 'PHYSICAL' and 'ECONOMIC' default methods produce expected results. As such, you must select AS DEFINED IN PROCESS; when running calculations in openLCA in order to produce the correct results.

For more information, please see this double-counting thread on allocation and this unit properties in allocation thread in the openLCA Q&A and GitHub Issues lists, respectively.

Use FEDEFL-Adapted LCI & LCIA Methods

As a repository on the Federal LCA Commons (FLCAC), the US Life Cycle Inventory (USLCI) Database is adapting the Federal Elementary Flow List (FEDEFL). Life cycle inventory (LCI) and life cycle impact assessment (LCIA) methods are also being converted to be compatible with the FEDEFL being adapted by FLCAC. Please see FEDEFL-Adapted LCI & LCIA Methods to download FEDEFL-compatible methods to run on the USLCI and other Federal LCA Commons LCI repositories.
