Guide Prep Work: Making Your Own Starter Pack

To prevent everyone from downloading an out-of-date starter pack, I'm going to show you how to make your own. If you plan on going through the whole guide - this is where you want to start.

You'll need an SD card. Any size will work, though if you plan on using redNAND - the SD card has certain requirements to meet.

  • Format your SD card to FAT32. If the linked method doesn't work for your OS (or if FAT32 isn't listed as an option), you need additional software. /u/LightPrism suggests fat32format. If you're using a MAC, you might need something like this.

    • Note: Windows 10 has a... funny way of formatting devices. If you're on Windows 10, just use fat32format to prevent future problems.

    • Note 2: If you can, use 64kb clusters. If that ends up not working, try 32kb clusters. I've gotten them both working on Wii U, but people have been saying they have better luck with one or the other.

    • Note 3: If you have to name your SD card, do not name it "wiiu". It's been reported that this will not work for whatever reason.

  • Create a folder called 'install' in the root of your SD card.

  • Create a folder called 'wiiu' in the root of your SD card

  • Download the latest version of the Homebrew App Store. Extract the 'apps' folder into the 'wiiu' folder.

  • Download the latest version of the Haxchi Installer. Extract the 'haxchi' folder and 'wiiu' folder into the root of your SD card.

    • Note: To be clear, don't download CBHC. Download the other .zip file available.
  • Download version 1.4 of the Homebrew Launcher. Extract the 'wiiu' folder into the root of your SD card.

  • Download the latest release of the Homebrew Launcher Channel. Extract the contents of this .zip to the 'install' folder on the root of your SD card.

  • Create a folder called 'mocha' in the 'apps' folder. Download the latest version of Mocha CFW. Extract the 'mocha.elf' into the 'mocha' folder you just made.

  • Download the latest version of the Modified WUP Installer. Extract the 'wiiu' folder into the root of your SD card.

  • Download the latest version of disc2app. Extract the 'wiiu' folder into the root of your SD card.

  • Download the latest version of the WUPhax. Extract the 'wiiu' folder into the root of your SD card.

  • Download the latest Hackmii Installer. Take the 'boot.elf' from the 'hackmii_installer_v1.2' folder and place it into the root of your SD card.

  • (Optional) Download the latest version of nnupatcher. Extract the 'nnupatcher' folder into the 'apps' folder inside of the 'wiiu' folder.

  • (Optional) Download the latest version of Saviine. Extract the 'wiiu' folder into the root of your SD card. Save the 'server' folder elsewhere on your computer.
