Shutter: useful screenshot utility, similar to OSX Skitch

Shutter is a useful tool to simplify screenshots, commenting on them and attaching them to github issues (for example). It is similar to the OSX Skitch app, but it is opensource and available to Ubuntu.

Installation:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:shutter/ppa
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install shutter

Configuration:

Out of the box, Ubuntu comes with Unity, and does not work nicely with gnome-style tools such as Shutter. In order to make it work, we need to configure it correctly.

  2. There is no simple way to import settings, so they need to be configured manually. Open Shutter, get into preferences, and set several values as seen:
