High level priorities

Utility

Every decision/choice in the game has to bring some utility to the playthrough. Utility may come in different forms ranging from “micro” to “macro”. On the “micro” end we can identify things such as:

  • Resources
  • Time management/optimizations
  • Horizontal actions (immediate benefits without progressing through the story) On the “macro” end we’d consider things like:
  • Tech (contributing time and resources now to open useful things in the future)
  • Vertical actions (progressing through the story)

Manual override

Player should have the ability to manually execute actions once they are comfortable with the way the game works. Such actions may result in "shortcuts" of the playthrough, there should be no fundamental "walls" preventing or limiting player's actions in favor of "keeping to the story".
