Inkscape is a confined snap, and confined snaps only have access to the /home directory. The preview tries to use inkscape in the /tmp directory, resulting in the following error:
** (inkscape:3198): WARNING **: Error: Could not open file '/tmp/tmp2221047825943731143.tmp/temp.svg' with VFS
Possible fixes might be to let the preview work somewhere in the /home directory if the /tmp failes, or figuring out how to build inkscape from source such that it can access the /tmp folder.
The same problem occurs when installing inkscape using flatpak. It doesn't happen when you install it with your every day package manager, but unfortunately that's not an option for everyone (e.g., Solus).
