Maybe a little confusing seeing as the brew diy command is also aliased as brew configure

Is it? I didn't realize that, which is kind of funny, considering that I use brew diy in this script itself. I suppose it could be renamed...

(Not sure how to test it.)

I can add testing in a separate pull request

I'd like to open a new pull request for this submission from a different branch but I'm having some trouble squashing and rebasing, should I just go ahead and submit it anyway?

Yeh, go for it. You can always squash it properly later.

Decided to forgo trying to squash properly and just made a third branch. New pull request is #17939
