I'm not quite sure how multiple versions of a Formula are supposed to be defined. Cloudera has their own distribution of hadoop that is fairly common. I modified the existing hadoop and hive formulas so I could setup my local development environment to more closely match what is on production, and it just worked.
A lot of hadoop packages such as hbase/hive/zookeeper/etc.. are available under one common version such as cdh3u1 to cdh3u4, the latest is now cdh4.0.1.
Are there any plans in the future to support formulas that share a common version number?
