Welcome to the Calving Model Intercomparison (CalvingMIP) wiki.

The formation of CalvingMIP is being undertaken as part of PROTECT, an EU funded project to "assess and project changes in the land-based cryosphere, with fully quantified uncertainties, in order to produce robust global, regional and local projections of SLR on a range of timescales". These efforts are set to culminate in a world-wide model intercomparison project on ice damage and calving, comparing the novel routines to standard approaches/calving laws, leading to recommendations for improved calving laws in ice sheet models. A full description of the CalvingMIP experiments, as well as our justification and rational behind their design, can be found in the Experiments section.

Whilst CalvingMIP may have originated from PROTECT it is very much our intention to welcome participants from across the cryospheric modelling community. A full list of participating model groups and a description of how these models implement ice shelf calving can be found in the participating model groups section.

Past meetings discussing the goals, methodology and scope of CalvingMIP have been archived in the following section.

The discussion section of this wiki hosts forums where any questions relating to CalvingMIP or experiences gained from performing the experiments can be shared.
