Backup and restore options for game library #912
Comments
Having just lost all Playnite settings and all of the hours played from a hard crash, I'd love this as well, if not just an automated backup. |
I don't know if it's worth the effort adding this natively to Playnite since you have so many 3rd party backup options (including the simplest ones like Dropbox). Do other launcher support this? |
Most don't because you sign in with your account (e.g Steam) to backup everything. Since Playnite doesn't have an option for an account, integrating a backup option would be nice. A note taking app I use, Joplin, has native backup for multiple providers like Dropbox or Nextcloud. You could take a look at the source code for that to get some ideas on how to implement this. |
Linking #1975 to this. |
Please add a setting to import and export your playnite library into a compressed zip or 7z file which can be imported again. This compressed file will contain everything inside the playnite library folder such as the games, game covers, game background images, categories, platforms, game details, all of it. This way Playnite will have an official import/export feature to allow for gamers to export their library and back it up now and then and then be able to import it to their new gaming computers with just a few clicks. |
A small enhancement request for this: Could it also be given a scheduled backup, instead of only manual ones? I like to do a backup every few days in case something goes wrong. Thank you. |
Done in devel. |
Has this been merged into a release? (note: consider updating https://github.com/JosefNemec/Playnite/wiki/Frequently-Asked-Questions#how-do-i-backup-playnite-library-and-move-it-to-another-pc too) |
It will be part of Playnite 10 (you can check assigned milestone to see in what release features or fixes will be included). |
Since playnite is mostly on an OS drive and windows is not stable enough to run without atleast a reformat once a year it is advisable to allow the database to be backed up on a seperate drive folder and schedule it.
