I'll let someone else do the honors. In particular, there doesn't seem to be a transition strategy in #3344 other than "move yer stuff". Which is cool, but maybe it should be announced.

Thanks for point this out--I'll update NEWS, and make an announcement on julia-users and julia-dev.

Just to be clear, this change doesn't change or break existing package installations. Existing .julia directories should continue to work as-is.

No, but that's why I was nervous. We already supported finding ~/.julia/v1.2 directories, but now we create versioned package directories by default. If you've already got a setup without a version, nothing changes – or at least that's the theory.
