Hey Ken,

The bike tag idea was stolen from /r/chicago: it'd be cool to support some of the more popular bike subs (and it'll get you some more traffic).

Sweet idea!

Adam,

Thanks for creating this issue and for your support!

Support for multiple bike tag regions is built into the code and is also set up with the domain! There are additional links to these regions on the about page, as well as information about biketag that was harvested from this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/chibike/comments/3iew6o/bike_tag_rules/

As far as I have been able to research: biketag existed solely on Reddit. I wasn't able to find any other references to its origin or its continued presence on any other website on the internet. It was our intention to build biketag.org with explicit respects to this fact, and I'm sorry that wasn't prevalent enough to have come across to you immediately. We can work on that though!

To give you a sense of where we are currently at: biketag.org and pdx.biketag.org are synonymous right now for the use with Pedalpalooza in Portland, Oregon. Subdomain support has been coded and tested, but we haven't begun mining the other subreddits for their posts yet. We intend to use this month to iron out some of the issues that might arise and have already begun talks of how to implement features that will best support the existing game of biketag on both Reddit and elsewhere. I've even suggested that we create a Reddit API integration to both crawl for new tags as well as automatically posting to subreddits when a tag is created on biketag.org.

I will leave this issue open until we have a better sense of the roadmap moving forward and are more actively advertising in different regions other than PDX.

Super happy to report that this has finally been implemented on the website!

Since the creation of this project, we've had this expansion in mind, and recently someone in Denver has shown an interest in starting up a biketag game in their city. That enthusiasm has driven this feature to the forefront this month and I'm excited to see the potential for more biketag games in more cities!

In addition to this feature rolling out we now have a landing page for the homepage that links to the "Supported Regions". Coming soon will be the ability to apply for the biketag ambassadorship program to spin-up/kick-off a biketag.org site for anyone who wants to be an ambassador and help us in spreading the game of biketag!

While traffic is picking up I'm happy to see that this feature both allows us to scale with the single server that is running biketag.org as well as allows us to deploy individual instances of the app for any individual biketag regions. So for a longer running game like the one in Austin, Texas (with almost 1,000 tags now!), that might require more from the server, we can deploy a single instance on a separate server just for that region to keep the app performant.

Thanks for creating our first issue @adamdavis40208! We hope you consider this closed for now and welcome any feedback you want to provide.
