New Parts Wishlist

Most important:

  • Hard drives. Currently we add storage capacity to the KER tape recorder and the KER chip, but we can't tech-gate those without breaking other people's saved vessels.
  • Better parts for the chemical plant and external ECLSS modules. Currently we're using a scaled stock ISRU model with adjusted textures. Better for life support system and chemical processors. Less bulky ones.
  • The existing supply containers need a texture revamp. The small supply container doesn't look anything like the bigger ones, and the bigger ones look like someone tried to wipe dirt off a cogwheel.

For science:

Kerbalism adds a couple of new experiments and experiment groups. Currently we have to slap our stuff onto existing (stock) parts because we don't have our own parts.

  • Orbital sensor array (currently we're using the stock orbital survey scanner). Something that looks like it could any one or more of Geiger counters, thermometers, gravioli detectors and stuff like that.
  • Atmospheric multi-purpose science instrument (currently we're using the stock spectro-variometer). Runs atmospheric analysis of all sorts.
  • Something similar for submerged (oceanic) situations.

Longer term science:

  • Cameras and imaging equipment of all sorts. Stuff that one would find on a weather satellite, or maybe on new horizons
  • Sun observation equipment (telescope)
  • Telescopes of all sizes. Small to Hubble.

These could be poached from elsewhere, or done with reconfiguration of existing ones:

  • Radially attachable supply containers. Please!
  • Inline tanks for gases (oxygen, helium etc) - currently we have radially attachable tanks only.

An experiment group is basically a part that lets you select 1-3 experiments out of a list of available experiments. The selected are installed and can be run during the mission.

Ramblings...

maybe a modular part, that has some variable models depending on how many experiments are selected.

I'd like something that acts as a sensor array. it just has to look scient-y, doesn't need specific details for temperature readings or other experiment related stuff, it should just look like it could do a temperature reading. and/or a radiation reading. maybe a bunch of pointy looking antennas in various forms that sit on a plate (and can be extended?)

i also would like to have something like a telescope with a lens cap on it that would flap open/close. for all kinds of orbital observations: IR surface scans, visual imaginary, stuff like that. later that also could be used for something like a Hubble-sized satellite.

possibly something to handle atmo and underwater groups as well. because the spectro-variometer is overworked.

List of Experiments in Groups

Unmanned Science Group (these are on probe cores)

  • Telemetry
  • Radiation
  • Temperature
  • Double-C Seismic Accelerometer
  • LITE: Luminosity Information Technical Experiment. Literally is just is it in the sun or not.
  • MITE: Magnosity Ionospheric Transmissive Evaluation. Measures strength of magnetic fields in ionosphere.
  • SITE: Survey Interplanetary Trash Experiment. Measures dust through the vacuum.

Orbital Experiments (on the stock orbital survey scanner)

  • GRAVMAX Negative Gravioli Detector
  • BEEP: Biome Exclusive Experiment Package
  • DING: Dynamic Investigation in Null Gravity
  • TICK: Transmissble Investigation of Cosmic Knowledge

Underwater (no clue what those are slapped onto)

  • SALT: Saline Authenticity Licking Test: Kerbal Scientists assure us this test is very much scientific.
  • H2O: Hydro-di-Oxyl Observation: This sample has been shortened to H2O.

Atmospheric (on the stock spectra variometer)

  • Atmospheric Fluid Spectro-Variometer
  • PresMat Barometer
  • CURVE: Checking Undulating Radial Vectors of Environment: Ensuring the planet is still round from the upper atmosphere.
  • WING: Wandering Investigation Not on the Ground: Not many takers to watch the ground zipping past so quickly!
  • CLOUD: Cumulative Longitudinal Overland Understanding of Dynamic: "Dynamic what?", many Kerbals ask.

Additional Ideas

Long term: We're talking about a science/mission pack that would pose a set of problems for the player that he has to solve by selecting the correct orbits for his missions. For those we could need a set of telescopes for

  • Orbital Survey of the Earth in multiple spectrums (observation of water, sea, infrared, uv)
  • weather satellites
  • GNSS satellites
  • Communication satellites for high latitudes
  • All sorts of telescopes: Hubble, something that looks at the sun
