Alternative Solution # 2

There already is a solution for How to Enable Concurrent Sessions in Windows 7 RTM.

There needs to be a way to login multiple times on one pc's os, but make it so you don't have to rdp. Make it so the login happens from a different display output (different monitor, keyboard, mouse, mce remote.... but this same motherboard and core). Then we would have a softsled like solution and be able to do multiroom windows media center with fullscreen display on every tv. Does anyone know how hard this would be or if its already been done? I looked and I couldn't find any examples. If this can be done without RDP or virtualization this would work!

Another idea i have been pondering is to change the default live tv decoder (http://www.hack7mc.com/2009/04/disable-and-replace-ms-dtvdvd-decoder.html), then hopefully crack the drm in the new codec. Then play video through the remote desktop smoothly. I don't have a tuner at the moment but i will report my findings when I get one.

Honestly I wouldn't bother - "crack the drm"?! Sounds rather hard!

I'm trying to test my theory of using the new Win7 RDP video redirection with Windows Media Player (you can open a recording .wtv file without any error messages). Unfortunately my PVR is Home Prem (TS hack doesn't make the video/areo redirection work) - you wouldn't be running 7Pro would you?

I am running 7 ultimate over here, I d be willing to give it a try. Have you looked at these hybrid motherboards coming out, http://news.softpedia.com/news/DFI-Hybrid-Motherboard-Pairs-NVIDIA-ION-with-Intel-P45-127165.shtml Maybe we can pull off some sort of of dual room softsled with one of these puppies. I doubt theres a way it can share DRMed files legitly.

Those hybrid boards do look interesting.

It's great you have a 7 machine up and going, but did you say you don't have a tuner yet? I've tried petitioning thegreenbutton but nobody seems willing/able to understand what I'm asking to try out.

Yea, sold mine ati dct on ebay to get the ceton one whenever it comes out. I ll look for your post to see if I can figure out exactly what you mean. I was thinking maybe changing the tv decoder would allow this to work in the rdp session but i doubt it, probably the WMC app tells the RDP not to allow smooth rendering. Link me to your post on TGB for a better explination of this rdp thing you want to try.

http://thegreenbutton.com/forums/t/81544.aspx?PageIndex=1 I explain the idea on the first page and clarify it again in the last current post on the second page.
